Alette Simmons-Jimenez is a visual artist whose work engages video, mixed media, sculpture, and installations.

Alette Simmons-Jimenez was born into a US military family that boasted nineteen different homes. As a nomad and a perpetual outsider, she longed for a sense of belonging and identity. The one constant was her creative capacity. After graduating with a BFA from Newcomb Memorial College of Tulane University in New Orleans, she was again drawn to the call of distant shores. She relocated to the Dominican Republic and stayed eighteen years. Now based in Miami, she continues themes of this push and pull, this need to settle and to move on, embodying the struggle between intellect and humane nature.

The artist's works have been exhibited internationally and are held in permanent collections at the Mobile Museum of Art, Santo Domingo's Museo de Arte Moderno, and the Louisville 21c Museum and others. She has been selected to particpate in respected programs such as Creative Capital Professional Development Programs and the Enrique Martinez Celaya Summer Workshop in art theory (affiliated with the Anderson Ranch). She is the recipient of several fellowships, awards, and grants from institutions such as the Florida Department of State, Miami-Dade Division of Cultural Affairs, the Knight Foundation, Optica International in Spain, the Mobile Museum of Art, the Renaissance Center in Tennessee, and others. While residing in the Dominican Republic her entry to the XVIII National Biennial, at the Museo De Arte Moderno was awarded the 1st Prize in Video. She is recognized as the first woman artist to exhibit video art in that country.

Articles including her work have appeared in numerous journals and publications. Recently the artist was selected as a Miami New Times "100 Creatives", she was included in the book "Miami Contemporary Artists", and was twice selected for "New American Paintings", once featured on the cover.

Simmons-Jimenez founded Artformz in 2004, an artist run exhibition space that was located in the Wynwood Arts District. As director of the project she created, curated and produced numerous exhibitions, including "Giants in the City" a 2008 Knight Arts Challenge winning project, the "Small Wonderz Art Salon" project, and "Artist Invites Artist" an international exchange exhibit with artists from Valencia, Spain.
