The traditional elements of color, composition, line, and form consider human
vulnerability and the complex balance between the sublime and the tragic
in our relationship to nature.
BLUE FADES TO BROWN FADES TO VIOLET
Blue waters surrender without complaint
into gutter-brown swirls, swells, and crests.
Curled ripples, foamy-topped and gas-stained,
lay their iridescence on front lawns.
The electric violet tickles at my ankles.
Feels like silk and smells like danger.
We listen. The silent flood drifts ever southward
giving up no answers.
